God's command to Adam and Eve (Gen 1:28) was to spread out and "replenish" the earth (still wondering about that *re*-plenish thing). He didn't want people concentrated in one area. (Who was He speaking to? Angels? ) I find it curious that here He says: now nothing will be restrained from them... And in the situation with Adam, when His reaction was: ... lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever ... Some take these as examples of the restrictive nature of YHVH, but I think there's something else to it, though I haven't any idea what (yet).
And when (the tribe of) Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude (of their enemies), and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.-- 2 Chronicles 20:24 (Note: It took them three days to carry off the riches of the fallen.) They won this battle without raising a weapon--they put it in God's hands.
Thus saith the Lord; They also that uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: from the tower of Syene shall they fall . . . -- Ezekiel 30:6 Some interpret "Egypt" as a symbol like that of the Devil card--basically, the man's lower, baser nature. Thus the Israelites (spiritual nature) were enslaved there, then later freed by God. And such a Tarot story that is too, with the dual pillars of fire and smoke, Moses's rod (turned serpent/Caduceus), etc.
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.--Proverbs 16:18 Although Waite mentions the fall of Adam, as well as a relation to the previous card (Devil), he totally disregards the most obvious association with Lucifer, whose fall was much more literal. As soon as you have pride/ego/self, you differentiate and alienate yourself from Unity/One/God. All men are *created*........(and therefore).......equal. It's not just a good idea; it's the Law.

How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow giver her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine: and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her....Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. 7-8, 21 |
