ALTERNATE NAME: Sorrow

BASIC DESCRIPTION: A large red heart is pierced by three swords. In the background are grey clouds and rain.
FIRST THING THAT STRUCK ME: This is one of few cards in the deck without a human figure.
COLORS: Red and gray, blue swords.

UPRIGHT MEANINGS: Three swords piercing a heart; cloud and rain behind. Divinatory Meanings: Removal, absence, delay, division, rupture, dispersion, and all that the design signifies naturally, being too simple and obvious to call for specific enumeration --Waite. Heartache, sorrow, grief, intense emotional pain or upheaval, anguish, being hurt, suffering inside, unsettling news, no solace. Loss of love or loved ones, forced separations, absence, isolation, loneliness, homesickness, alienation, rejection, abandonment, disappointment in love. Betrayal, stabbed in the back, let down, trust misplaced, uncovering a painful truth. Turning against someone, breaking your word, lack of mercy, error.

REVERSED MEANINGS: Mental alienation, error, loss, distraction, disorder, confusion.--Waite. Sorrow to a lesser degree, confusion, disorder, disruptions, broken promises, quarreling, conflict, war.

HISTORICAL: Apparently Pamela Coleman Smith got the idea for this image from the Sola-Busca deck.

SITUATIONS IN MY LIFE: Aftermath of SR111.
THIS CARD IN MY LIFE: This card manifests in two ways in my life. First of all, acute homesickness. Also, not the immediate aftermath of the death of loved ones, but those times later, when I really miss them.

PERSONAL THOUGHTS: A great potential tattoo.

OTHER DECKS: Healing Tarot calls this card "Integrity" and gives it a Three Musketeers twist. The sword-pierced heart is a pink-frosted cake with the word "Forever" and roses on it.
