The Rainbow Spread is for general reading in seven different areas. It takes sunshine and rain to make a rainbow, so I lay out two rows: top going left to right, beginning with violet; bottom going right to left, beginning with red.

The top row signifies sunshine, and the bottom, rain. These can be compared as strengths & weaknesses, opportunites & threats, positive & negative, or perhaps even future and present (in which case I would lay the bottom row first, as present).

To elaborate legibly:

violet - spiritual, higher self

indigo - personality, eternal factors (karma)

blue - emotions, dreams (Cups traits)

green - growth, fertility, physical (Pents traits)

yellow - mental knowledge and preoccupations (Swords traits)

orange - strength, attraction, luck

red - passion, energy, creativity (Wands traits)

 

The Rainbow Spread can be adapted for any seven-fold system, and is well-suited to comparing cards horizontally and vertically. This spread offers a spectrum of possibilites!
