From the four great staves planted in the foreground there is a great garland suspended; two female figures uplift nosegays; at their side is a bridge over a moat, leading to an old manorial house. Divinatory Meanings: They are for once almost on the surface--country life, haven of refuge, a species of domestic harvest-home, repose, concord, harmony, prosperity, peace, and the perfected work of these. Reversed: The meaning remains unaltered; it is prosperity, increase, felicity, beauty, embellishment.--A.E. Waite

COMPLETION This card refers to Chesed in the suit of Fire. Being below the Abyss, it is the Lord of all manifested active Power. The original Will of the Two has been transmitted through the Three, and is now built up into a solid system:--Order, Law, Government. It is also referred to Venus in Aries, which indicates that one cannot establish one's work without tact and gentleness.
The wands are headed by the Ram, sacred to Chesed, the Father-god Amoun-Ra, as also to Aries; but at the other end of the wands are the Doves of Venus.
In the symbol, the ends of the wands touch a circle, showing the completion and limitation of the original work. It is within this circle that the flames (four double, as if to assert the balance) of the Energy are seen to play, and there is no intention to increase the scope of the original Will. But this limitation bears in itself the seeds of disorder.--Aleister Crowley

The card represents a domestic environment filled with Fire optimism, eagerness, and celebration. ...
They are leaving a walled city for the open bower. In other words, their spirit and courage carry them from a defensive situation to an open one....In the Four of Wands optimism and love of freedom carry the people, together, out of their walled city before it becomes a Tower-like prison.--Rachel Pollack

In readings, the 4 of Wands often represents the events and experiences that generate excitement. What these are varies from person to person, but the feelings are the same - makes ya wanna shout! Sometimes these times arrive unexpectedly. The 4 of Wands can signal a surprise or spontaneous thrill. Other times, we deliberately create "high" events - weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, victory parties, New Year's Eve extravaganzas and more. These events certainly have their solemn side, but they are also celebrations - a chance to feel the joy of living.--Joan Bunning

This card tells us to take it easy, relax with friends, and enjoy the fruits of our creative labors. It's time to celebrate. Like most number fours in the Tarot, the Four of Imps indicates some stability and structure, represented by the four-pronged stage platform. In keeping with the freedom-loving nature of the Fire suit, however, the imps joyfully jostle the platform with enthusiastic dancing. After all, isn't that what imps are for?--Karin Lee

Four is symbolic of order and culmination, exemplified in the fact that so many things are complete as groups of four....Four pillars were said to represent the cardinal points and symbolize the boundaries of the earth and the solid, visible manifestation of the world.--Alexandra Genetti
When this card appears in a reading, it symbolizes a creative completion and ending that can give you a new perspective. The ending of this part of your life, which manifests in the completion of the physical or creative task at hand, has given you the ability, like the Ba, to transcend the normal, simple way of seeing the world and get a broader perspective. It is a moment of revelation, and through your ability to finish this creative task you are given a chance for growth and change through the ability to see yourself from this new perspective.
This card also calls on you to examine how your completed creative act contributes to the structure of your community and world.--Alexandra Genetti
