A hand issuing from a cloud grasps a stout wand or club. Divinatory meanings: Creation, invention, enterprise, the powers which result in these; principle, beginning, source; birth, family, origin, and in a sense the virility which is behind them; the starting point of enterprises; according to another account, money, fortune, inheritance. Reversed: Fall, decadence, ruin, perdition, to perish; also a certain clouded joy.--A.E. Waite
As the wand on the ace radiates light from an unknown source, so inspirations come from the unknown. We have ideas and plans, ideals and dreams; the ace of wands signifies the moment in which we see the way, when the form of a dream is revealed.--Jean Huets
A gift of strength, of power, of great sexual energy, of the love
of living. The leaves burst out so abundantly that they fall off to
become yods, the first letter of God's name. The yods' presence in
all the Aces but that of Pentacles indicates that we receive these
primal experiences as a gift from life. We cannot cause or
produce them by any normal means; they come to us as hands emerging
from clouds.
At the beginning of some situation, no card could signal a better
start. It gives eagerness and strength. At the same time, the card
teaches humility, for it reminds us that ultimately we have done
nothing morally to deserve the optimism and greater energy that
sometimes allows us to overwhelm other people. Š A reversed Ace
implies in some way a failure of that primal experience. This can
mean simply that the situation turns against us, or, especially with
Wands and Swords, that we find it impossible to hang on to that force
and use it beneficially.--Rachel Pollack
This card represents the essence of the element of Fire in its
inception. It is a solar-phallic outburst of flame from which spring
lightnings in every direction.
These flames are Yods, arranged in the form of the Tree of Life.
It is the primordial Energy of the Divine manifesting in Matter, at
so early a stage that it is not yet definitely formulated as
Will.
Important: although these "small cards" are sympathetic with their
Sephirotic origin, they are not identical; nor are they Divine
Persons. These (and the Court Cards also) are primarily sub-Elements,
parts of the "Blind Forces" under the Demiourgos,
Tetragrammaton.--Aleister Crowley
The wand became the symbol of the living spirit and creativity of
humanity, as expressed in our skill and artistic invention. Fire was
also connected with the passion involved in lovemaking. Our
uncontrollable desires sustain the creative spirit of the planet as
they bring pregnancy and the birth of a new potentially creative
being.
When the Ace of Wands is drawn as a part of a reading, look at the
creative, passionate spirit of the issue you are dealing with.

Congratulations, you have the imp by the tail! You are in control, and your new projects are bound to be successful. Since the Imps combine the energetic spark of the Fire element with the onset of new enterprises and ideas, the Ace of Imps gives you a literal thumbs up to set your fiery, unstoppable creative impulses to motion.--Karin Lee
Stimulation. You are strongly aware of intuitive feelings and are prepared to rely on their wisdom. You realize there is more to existence than outward show, and you are ready to set out on the quest for greater psychological understanding of yourself and all those who share your life.--LWB of Navigators of the Mystic SEA Tarot by Julia Turk
