Mother Earth, Mother Nature
DESCRIPTION: The Empress sits on her chaise
lounge, fluffed up pillows with signs of Venus over everything. Her
white gown almost looks like pajamas--the kind you would stay in all
day if it was raining hard enough. Her seat rests on a heart that
appears to be stone. A field of wheat (fertility) ripens in the
foreground. A stream runs through the forest and cascades to a pool.
The lady in question has a serene look. She is the most beautiful
woman, if not in the deck, at least in the Trumps. Who were the
models for these cards anyway? She sits, not as though in a field or
clearing, but as at home in her own garden. She holds a scepter and
is crowned with leaves (laurels?) and the 12 stars of the zodiac.
Nurturing. A summery card. I'm surprised to note the tip of a red
shoe--I'd be barefoot.
